 ONE HEART Piyak Ootihi

A New Day Dawning

One Heart united formally as a Drum Circle in 2006, and since May 2008  have been focused on and committed to inform and help heal our community.   Our intention is to provide opportunities to the community which respond to the Truth and Reconciliation call for healing and education about the residential school experience and legacy in Canada.  We work with the intention of bringing clarity about the issues,  to provide opportunities for all nations to rekindle awareness of who they are and what they are capable of and to regain their sense of personal power.

We know that our whole community has been affected by history, oppression, violence, guilt and shame and promote healing without exclusivity. This is not an aboriginal problem; it is OUR problem.  With the intention of moving understanding from the head to the heart, we provide a safe environment for all, without blame, criticism or condemnation.

Our core belief is that we can transform a common mindset of assumption and prejudice which allows tolerance of toxic systems like residential schools to develop from one person’s hatred of another.

We are interested community members, from youth to elders and of one heart.

We do this because it is time. We do this for our next generations – our future. We do this to put an end to racism, sickness, oppression, and misunderstanding. We do this because it is our sacred responsibility.  We do this because it is an honor. “If not now, when?  If not me, who?”
